Sometimes I wonder

Sometimes I wonder if people really care.
I was at the grocery store and an old lady dropped a box of detergent.
Some people were standing nearby, saw it happen, and didn’t do anything.
Can’t a grown up man pick up a small box of a kilo for an old lady?
So I went there, asked him to step aside “so I can pick up the box you saw the lady dropped”.
He went angry.
I felt him looking at my back, but at that moment I felt strong and turned towards him.
He said nothing, and just when he took a breath to start talking I said: “Thank you for stepping aside. Life must be hard on you that you can’t bend your back.”
Before he took in the meaning I was gone. LOL!
I hope I made a lasting impression.
There are times that I wonder if people are able to learn.
During my studies I learned how to deal with problems.
I learned to observe, and I can tell you that it prevented many problems.
Today I heard from Gomey. An autistic boy who’s behind locked doors.
Not because of his own doing, but because a social worker wasn’t able to observe.
His mom subjects him to a special diet: a Low Oxalate Diet.
This in combination with the proper supplements.
The diet is one of the many alternative therapies given to autistic people.
They’re called alternative, because scientific research hasn’t proven yet that they are indeed of influence on autistic symptoms.
As far as I know no parents have yet been arrested for providing a child an alternative diet, unless there was clear proof of neglect and malnutrition.
Thinking about how many parents subject their children to a glutenfree diet for instance, the prisons would simply burst.
But this diet is also given to people who suffer from a metabolic disorder which makes them prone for kidneystones.
It’s a syndrome which is rare, but rather well described, and one of the features are ear deformities.
It’s hard to see on this picture, but I had a look at a larger one and I can say that that social worker should have done her research on this case a lot better.
Gomey is taken from his home because he’s a danger to himself and others.
His family is amazed and the doctor who’s in charge says there are no signs he’s a danger to himself. And until now he hasn’t seen any indication Gomey is a danger to others.
Those who know this case fear that the social worker wanted Gomey removed from his home and family because of the diet.
If that’s the case she’s going well beyond the borders of her profession, as she isn’t a doctor nor a dietician.
I’ve seen fellow students start their carreers with huge mistakes.
Their ego’s are so big that they’ve lost their sight on their own abilities and skills.
I wonder if that’s the case with this social worker too.
Thanks Laane for the information

I find that many people these days are oblivious of their surroundings! I wish they would teach the children in school to be more compassionate.
But it can also be the other way around. I once held open a heavy door for a frail old lady…and when she came closer she started screaming at ME?!?!
Not so frail after all.
